surprisingly smashing!

This week has been surprisingly smashing. I love it when that happens. ^^
On Sunday we went to the Memorial Day picnic for our church. Picnics are so wonderful. There's something about them that make them amazing. Any who, we played lots of volleyball and stunk at it. I would just speak for myself, but we really did stink. Except for Michael. maha. I watched Dasha own Brook in two chess games (the first was closer than the second, I must admit). And of course, all of those free running hooligans had to do their triple-aerial-360-backwards-break-your-neck-flips. It was quite entertaining to say the least.
After the picnic my dad took us out to ice cream. I love it when he does spontaneous things like that. :)

On Monday, Memorial Day, we WORKED! I was somewhat disappointed to have to work on a free day, but as a result of working, we finished the little bits and details that usually get neglected in one's room. Such as shoe moulding, and caulking, and puttying in bothersome holes.
It gives me a sense of peace to know that my room is finally finished after being without it for some five months.
That night dinner was exceptionally wonderful. I have no recollection of what it was, but boy, was it good! After that, we had devotions. Sometimes when I think of devotions, I never really look forward to it, but when we're actually in it, it's such an amazing time. It gives us the ability to grow up in God together as a family. Right now we're in Psalms. The psalmist's closeness with God is so awesome to look at. In a psalm we read recently, it said: "Put me on trail, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart." (Ps. 26:2) After discussing that verse for a while, we concluded that the psalmist wasn't "challenging" God. He desired so much to be pure and innocent before God that he was asking God to reveal any sin in him that would separate himself from God. I realized that I need to be more like the psalmist and constantly be asking God to reveal any wrong way in me. I hope that made sense. I thought it was worth sharing :)
After devotions my dad read us a story from For Conspicuous Gallantry - Winners of the Medal of Honor in light of it being Memorial Day. The story was about a man by the name of Alvin C. York. It's a terribly remarkable story (and humourous too ^^). Basically, it's during WWI and this man runs into a German machine gun nest with his buddies and they make the German officers surrender. After the Germans surrender, this man's buddies grab the German officers at gun-point and drag them back into the forest, leaving Mr. York to fend for himself with a bunch of Germans still operating the machine guns. York jumps behind a tree and picks most of the fools off single-handedly until the officers surrender. There's a bit more, but you get the idea.
That story gave me such a feeling of victory.
On Tuesday (heh, sorry. I'm making this painfully long. My apologies.), I babysat. It was good :)
Right as I arrived home, Danielle spoke in tongues to me at a rapid pace (maha, I suppose it wasn't that bad). I deciphered that I was to get ready to go that second because we were going bowling. I was quite giddy after that. I'm a really poor bowler, but I still get enjoyment out of it. ^^
On Wednesday, Danielle and I went to the Awana pool party (we didn't swim though. I know, we're such poopers). We had amazing burrito things with delectable chicken and oh so green avocados. My stomach was terribly content. Danielle, Liza and I taught Griff and Adam how to play Nerts, which they called "Nerds" for the first half-hour of playing. At first they were whiners because they didn't know how to play, but after a while, they got into the spirit of the game and were quite merciless. Tori brought some of her cameras to the party. She had her fisheye and four frame ones. We didn't use flash so the pictures turned out really grainy. =/ After freezing outside we went inside and we flocked the piano. Griff, Adam, Danielle, and Jono attempted to make music by playing a couple of hymns. The tunes were recognizable, but very choppy and broken. Even though it failed a bit, it was fun to watch them try ;)

On Thursday, I finished up the hallway bathroom by painting the shoe moulding. Quite fulfilling, I do say. mmh, yes...that day was quite uneventful.

On Friday, I had the joy and felicity of babysitting little Eva. It amazed me to see how small and delicate and soft her hands were in comparison to my hand. Her hair was like the downy feathers on ducklings. She has this adorable cowlick on the back of her head too. Babysitting her made me realize how much I miss having babies around.
hehe, I have loved this poem ever since I was small:

The Sitter

By Shel Silverstein

Mrs. McTwitter was the babysitter
I think she's a little bit crazy.
She thinks a babysitter's supposed
To sit upon the baby.

Friday afternoon was kind enough to bring Annie to me. She gave me an apron that she'd been meaning to give me as a birthday present. I love it to high heavens ^^ It's red with a black and white checkered tie (or sash or ribbon...whatever floats your very small boat. ;) ) around the waist and it has cream-coloured pockets at the bottom with Olivia the pig on them doing all sorts of perfectly ridiculous things. After geeking and staring at the apron, I helped Annie get ready for a banquet. She looked mighty fine, if I do say so myself. So when she left I had nothing to do so I watched Chocolat. That movie is good. I think it's one that I could pull out and enjoy every so often, but not all the time. When Annie got back from the banquet, we scrounged up a feast for ourselves; giving a clean sweep to every cupboard. We began our delectable midnight snack on the big rug in my room, but Danielle was desperate for sleep, so we migrated into the bathroom. We had the ingenious plan to talk in the tub, so we snatched most of the pillows and blankets off my bed and stuffed them into the tub. And henceforth proceeded to talk into the wee hours of the night.

Finally, today. We started out struggling to get out of bed, as we stayed up rather late. Then we rushed in a flurry to go meet Brook, Tucker, and Mandrew at Denny's. Adam and Josh ended up coming too. It was a grand time. After, we came back home and did chores. I was reminded of how much I like Switchfoot. They've got some good stuff. ^^

Well, now I've regurgitated my whole week on you. I hope it wasn't painfully dull or anything of that nature.

Have a surprisingly smashing week!

a diamond and a tether.

Well, this is my first attempt at a blog so hopefully it's not too pathetic.

The title is the name of a Death Cab song (It's quite a sad song, really). I got the Open Door [EP] cd from Griffin for my birthday and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. ^^

Today I was greatly inspired to live romantically. I'm not just talking of love and your typical view of romance, but rather fancifully and well, impractically, to put it bluntly. I've started a list of sorts with things that I see as romantic, I suppose. I may post them later. All this talk of romance has been influenced by a TV series (7 hours long O_o) Danielle and I just finished. It's a Charles Dickens story called Little Dorrit, adapted by BBC. It was quite fabulous (said like Mrs. Ruge, "fa-boo-luss." hehe ^^)

In the afternoon Danielle and I went to the bank to do the deposits and afterwards we went to Barnes & Noble to spend a gift card I got from Hannah for my birthday. I cannot express how much I love that store. I do think that I could live there. They have a café and couches, so I think I could live quite comfortably. Anyways, I bought Little Dorrit (expanding my borders, I know) and The Scarlet Pimpernel. I'm looking forward to reading them. ^^ Little Dorrit is quite fat, so it should take me a while. And I love the pages. They're quite floppy. When you open it to the middle, the book stays open.

Well enough for tonight.

Goodnight moon.
